
Matthew Haas joined PHDG’s Board of Directors in 2023. Matthew Haas is Senior Vice President for KeyBank’s Community Development Lending & Investment (CDLI) team, covering California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada. As a senior banker and relationship manager, he advances community lending and investment opportunities with for-profit and nonprofit affordable housing developers, supporting both LIHTC and workforce/missing-middle housing. During his three years at KeyBank, he has financed more than 3,000 housing units totaling nearly $500 million in debt and helped expand the bank’s equity syndications and participations platform by identifying new debt and equity investment partners.
Previously, Matthew served as Director of Investor Relations for the Western U.S. at Berkadia Affordable Housing Tax Credit Solutions and as Director of Investor Relations and Fund Management at Merritt Community Capital. In those roles, he raised more than $600 million in equity for 63 properties, financing over 5,000 affordable housing units.
With more than 25 years of affordable housing and community development experience across New York, Illinois, and California, Matthew has held leadership positions with the Low Income Investment Fund, Fannie Mae, Bank of America, National Equity Fund, and the Illinois Housing Development Authority. He also served with St. Nicholas Neighborhood Preservation Corporation and New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
Matthew holds an M.S. in Urban Planning from Columbia University and a B.A. in Architecture/Environmental Design from UC Berkeley. He currently serves on the boards of Holos Communities, PH Development Group, and AIA-LA, and on the loan committee of CCRC.
